Aprender, Y Crecer

“If you are not willing to learn no one can help you, if you are determined to learn no one can stop you.”
Why study Latin American Study !?

In the united states, when it comes to Latin American and Caribbean Studies it is often neglected by many institutions. Many educators in the U.S would believe that its not on their radar, such other subjects like AP-Gov, APUSH, and African American History. This usually comes from the idea of whats important to who, and the time.

Think about this in the U.S theirs a lot of Gun violence, school shooting, blacks being abused, and recently Donald Trumps impeachment. When ongoing catastrophes, such as these are tutoring many Americans it is hard to pay attention to other things.
In history classes it is often thought that great white men founded and built America. This can be extremely uninspiring to people of color.
Having these Ethnic-Study courses such as Latin American and Caribbean studies, for “students of color, who often feel so alienated in school settings no matter their class background, I don’t think we should minimize the the ‘fee good’ component… it’s vital for all children of color to see themselves, in the important parts of [American] history… ” (The Atlantic 7/22/19).

History has been written in ways that benefit one and destroys others “Similarly to students of color, white students have been misseducated about the roles of both whites and people of color throughout history”(The Atlantic 7/22/19).
Having this ethic classes allows for the real story to be told, not the white washed version. Latin America and the Caribbeans are extremely complex as its beauty may have other questioning it, or others embracing it. Latin America is a coalescence, of complex islands stretching from Mexico through Central America and the Caribbean then to all of Latin America. Latin America is extremely complex as its complex beauty of broken down houses, hard work in the fields with bad conditions may shock, or educate people. The importance of these places is that all the nations have their own history, background, and cultures. As we all thrive to grow we may not enclose ourselves with the knowledge of just where we live. All the people in those various nations have thrived and benefited from, the cultures, and background. In portrayal of Lain America and the Caribbeans, it’s often seen that, the authors point out all the “flaws, and “miss fortune”, of the place rather than the complexity of beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Another benefit to having these classes is that often times with occurring problems like the attempt in removal of all ethics classes in Arizona, others may agree with this as they believe that it doesn’t align with the idea of uniting all American (Video).
Also with these problems people may attempt to oversimplify by feeding an easy solution. “… reductive seduction of other people’s problems. Its not malicious. In many ways, its psychologically defensible; we don’t know what we don’t know (“Exotic Problems 7/22/19). “we don’t know what we don’t know”, without these ethic classes many people are clueless of what goes around the world, thus having these classes help educate and help others understand different parts of the world.

This is to not neglect the extreme poverty in these veriest countries, but, there’s never just one side to a story. “Never condemn a [a place] based on a little something that someone told you. There is always a lot more to the story!”
